PONDICHERRY INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES
The PIMS - Hospital units started functioning in October 2001 after the inauguration of the Emergency Block in March 2001 by the former Chief Minister of Pondicherry, Thiru. P. Shanmugam. At present, the hospital has a capacity of 740 beds with the specialty departments functioning from January 2002.

PIMS – CHS is located 12 Km from Puducherry on the East Coast Road with 32.89 acres of land. The campus houses a 740 bedded teaching hospital along with the various support and ancillary facilities required and has a built-up area of nearly 7.5 lakhs square feet.

What is Allied Health Science?

Allied health Sciences deals with all kind of diagnostic techniques which are being used in the medical sector and are very crucial for the treatment of the patients. Allied Health Sciences is a multidisciplinary course of study leading to Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in Allied Health.
PIMS College of Health Science provides a very strong foundation that will equip graduates with skills, knowledge and experience necessary to fulfill emerging health workforce roles in the health industry. These exciting programs reflect the contemporary direction of the national agenda on health and emphasize a multi-disciplinary approach.
Allied Health professionals are involved in a range of settings such as public and private hospitals, emergency, surgical, maternity and ICU departments, services such as outpatient services, specialist care including geriatrics and mental health, community health areas and other non-health settings. Working alongside doctors and nurses, there is an increasing demand for such professionals.

The college has an intake of 80 undergraduates each year (BSc-MLT, BSc-MRIT & BPT). Admission Requirements

For B.Sc. MLT, B.Sc. MRIT & B.P.T the candidates should have a pass in the Higher Secondary Examination (academic) conducted by the Board of Higher Secondary Examination of Tamil Nadu, or any other equivalent examination accepted by the University, thereto with a minimum of 50% marks (40% marks for SC, ST, MBC and OBC candidates) in Part-III subjects of Physics, Chemistry & Biology/Botany & Zoology or physics, foundation science and medical laboratory assistance course and should have English as one of the subjects. Candidates should have a pass in higher secondary (10+2) with Part-III subjects of Physics, Chemistry & Biology/Botany & Zoology or Physics, Foundation science and medical laboratory assistance course and should have English as one of the subjects.

Selection Process:

For government quota through CENTAC (50% seats).
For Management quota – PIMS Admission Committe (50 % seats)

- Submit application form along with Fee Rs 300/- , Online/Send DD or Cheque to PIMS address through speed post only or submit by cash at central bank in PIMS.
- The admission committee will scrutinize the received application forms.
- Interview will be conducted for eligible candidates to assess their English proficiency and comprehension skills.
- Preparation of shortlisted candidate’s list (Based on last qualifying examination, Higher Secondary Examination –Physics, Chemistry, Biology and marks obtained during the interview round).

Clinical Training

The students are provided theoretical knowledge, along with on-the job training. A year round clinical Training in hospitals, medical centres and all sectors of Health Care industry, ensures their industry readiness. Participation in medical seminars, workshops and conferences internally and externally helps to build confidence in them.

Vacation Training
At the end of every academic year the students undergo training in various Health Care Institutes approved by the college as a part of their curriculum. This training gives opportunities to work in other new departments and empowers them to make a better informed career choice.

Method of Training

Training of the students as per NMC “Vision: 2020- “The training of students shall involve learning experience ‘derived from ‘or ‘targeted to the needs of the community. It shall be necessary to expose the students to community based activities. Vertical & Horizontal integration of various subjects is done at all stages of the education. Ethics is also taught to the students so that they know the concepts of ethical medical practice. Training also include outreach community programme and rotation postings of small duration in the different outreach hospitals of the medical college

Evaluation Continuous Assessment of the students in both theory and clinical programme insists upon the student’s self-responsibility and increased motivation levels for better performance in the periodic written test, viva, log book and seminars. Periodical evaluation by teachers and feedback of parents at the Parent-Teachers Meets and mentor - Student meet.

RULES AND REGULATION FOR COLLEGE OF HEALTH SCIENCES

Students are expected to use only courteous and polite language and behave with decorum with the faculty members and the staff of the College.
Students shall avoid using any insulting, inciting, threatening language when talking with fellow students and should abstain themselves from violence.
Students shall not talk or act in any manner outside the institution in a way that would bring disrepute to the College.
The students shall observe strict silence in the class irrespective of the presence or absence of the faculty member.
No student is permitted to leave the classroom during class hours.
The students shall be regular and punctual in attending classes and all activities connected with the College.
While attending College functions, the students will conduct themselves in such a way as to bring credit to themselves and to the institution.
Spitting, smoking and throwing bits of paper inside the college campus is prohibited.
Students are prohibited from damaging the building or any other property of the College in any way. The cost of any damage so caused will be recovered from the students collectively if the responsibility for it cannot be fixed on any individual or group of individuals.
Each student of this College must possess Student Identity Card with his/her photograph affixed on it, duly attested by the Principal. The students must compulsorily wear the Student Identity Card inside the College Campus.
Use of mobile phones within the College campus is strictly banned. Violation of this rule by any student would result in impounding of the Cell phone and strict disciplinary action against the student.
Students should not involve themselves either directly or indirectly in any form of politics either inside or outside the College during their period of study. If a student fails to comply with this regulation, strict disciplinary action will be initiated against the student which may even result in the rustication of the student from the College.
It is the responsibility of the student to take care of their belongings and authority/management is not responsible for student’s personal belongings.
If a student changes his/her address, he/she must notify the Principal’s Office as soon as possible.
Students are expected to attend retreats/Annual Picnics arranged by college.
Students are expected to understand that irregular attendance, indifference in regard to class work and examination, discourtesy towards teacher’s insubordination, obscurity in word and act, willful damage to college property, anti-social activities etc are liable for disciplinary action which includes expulsion from the college.
